Clerk's Office

This important office could be described as the 'glue' that binds the Town together. It is the principal administrative group within the municipality and its role is a critical one.

The Clerk's Office identifies and prepares the Town Council meeting agenda which comprises bylaws to be passed, contracts to be awarded, delegations to be dealt with and, the general affairs of the Town itself. It is the official archivist for the municipality and preserves all matters of public record.

Consequently, the Department is heavily used as an official source of information. It deals with hundreds of inquiries and disseminates information of all types. Inquiries come from sources such as: the general public, lawyers, businesses, entrepreneurs, consultants, media, provincial government agencies, municipal employees and elected officials.

It scrutinizes events, ventures and organizations which require licenses and where appropriate, issues such licenses. It is responsible for enforcing the many bylaws which have been put in place to protect the public and to maintain the Township as a desirable place to work and to live.

The Clerk's Department is responsible for the following core functions:

  • The  processing of all Corporate business to be dealt with by the Council;
  • Providing advice to Council and staff to ensure that all Corporate business is properly dealt with in accordance with the Statutes of Ontario and other applicable laws;
  • Developing and administering Municipal policy;
  • Administering and delivering planning services pursuant to the Planning Act;
  • Processing and administering requests under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection to Privacy Act;
  • Responding to a large number of requests for information, both internally and externally;
  • Carrying out a variety of statutory duties such as those under the Vital Statistics Act, the Municipal Elections Act, etc;
