Trails Promotion & Enhancement Project

Late last season the Hornepayne Snowmobile Club Inc. started a process by applying within the OFSC for two new local trails and applying for funding under the Local Initiative Contribution program through Nord-Aski and FedNor/Industry Canada. The goal of this program was to improve, expand and promote local OFSC Prescribed trails within and around the Community of Hornepayne for local trailing riding and tourism.

We were successful in part on both applications. 18 km of new trail was approved by the OFSC (Lennon Loop) and we received $4978.72 in funding from Nord-Aski/FedNor/Industry Canada. Material and equipment costs exceeded $8200.00 to which the balance was covered by HSCI Volunteer Fundraising, contributions donated by local businesses and the Township of Hornepayne. Trail signage and sign posts covered by OFSC District funding

Late August and into the fall Club Volunteers started to manually brush and sign local trails. Mechanical brushing south of Cedar Point on the A Trail for 3.5 km (10km planned) was completed in November. Staging area signage along with Club Trails Map signage were developed and installed. Graphic design and printing of brochures was completed and distributed.

On behalf of the Hornepayne Snowmobile Club Inc., We acknowledge and say thank you to, Nord-Aski, FedNor/Industry Canada, The Township of Hornepayne, Craig’s Place, Northstar Centre Inn, Hornepayne Service Centre and Uncles Restaurant & Lodge for assisting our Club in funding this project. We would also like to thank Lebel Chainsaw for their support in purchasing brush/chainsaws and safety equipment for trail work.

I would like to acknowledge and say thank you to all our Club Volunteers who generously donate their time, vehicles and efforts from fundraising to trail work. Without this commitment, we would not been able to get this project off the ground.

We would like to thank our local and out of town permit buyers for there continued support to which allows us to provide and maintain 425 km of trail riding within the HSCI boundaries. All permit revenue stays “on the snow” and allows Club Volunteers to maintain/operate our trail network and Club within the Community of Hornepayne.

   HSCI Receives OFSC Grant

The Hornepayne Snowmobile Club Inc. is pleased to announce that they have been the recipients of an Industrial Groomer Program Grant from the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC). The grant will make over a $200,000.00 investment in our Clubs ability to maintain snowmobile trails in and around Hornepayne.

Hornepayne volunteer groomer operators put in over 550 hours grooming 425 km of trails. The Hornepayne Snowmobile Club Inc. expects that the new unit, 2010 Trail Bully and Drag might be on the snow and in Hornepayne by the end of February. The OFSC has arranged for our Club’s existing 2002 TS110 New Holland Tractor groomer to be moved over to the Manitouwadge club to improve their ability to maintain local and touring trails.

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs is making a $2.4 million winter tourism investment by strengthening its provincial grooming fleet. Through its Industrial Groomer Program, this OFSC investment from permit sales revenues is for 22 capital equipment projects. They will significantly improve the snowmobile trails that generate $1.2 billion in economic activity for the province each winter.

The placement of new or upgraded grooming equipment in many key areas of the province will enhance the capability of local snowmobile clubs to resurface their trails more consistently and effectively. The average cost of a new groomer unit runs from $190,000.00 to $225,000.00, depending on make and options.

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing strong leadership and support to member clubs and volunteers, to establishing and maintaining quality snowmobile trails which are used in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, and to furthering the enjoyment of organized snowmobiling.
