Hi Gene

Summer 08 – Left Halifax on Apr 19th and flew home from Greece on Oct 2nd.

HMCS Iroquois met up with HMCS Calgary and HMCS Protecteur who sailed from Victoria and the 3 ships sailed from San Juan to the Arabian Sea to combat terrorism on a different front.  It was extremely hot for us Canadians.  Average temp was 40-45C with some days reaching 55C.  Each and every day over in the Gulf was very humid.  Instant sweat when you stepped out of an airconditioned space.

Highlites of the trip.  Skiing in Dubai at the Mall of the Emirates.  Walking around shops in Dubai and Bahrain.  Cycling in San Juan, Peurto Rico and Split, Croatia.  It was too dangerous to cycle in the Arab nations.  My bike never left the ship after May 22nd.  Coming home of course was my biggest highlite.!!!!!!!

Most of the time we were away was at sea.  I am going to sea again but my next trip is only for a month.

I hope everyone in Hornepayne had a wonderful summer.

Here is a few pictures from my trip.

As I travel around the world with my bike, I will try to send more photos of

where Hornepayners have been. This was taken late Feb 08 in Mayport

Florida. The weather was nice and only Canadians ventured into the ocean.

I am scheduled for a 6 month tour so I should be able to come up with some

interesting stuff.

Take care and Happy Easter Weekend

Here is another pic of me at sea. We were on exercise and my old ship

passed by. I would of never dreamed of being with a ship when I was a kid

growing up in the North. All I can say is life at sea is different.

Hey Hornepayners

I see all kinds of pictures on the website from different parts of Canada.

I just finished a fisheries patrol with HMCS St. John's and we had the opportunity to spend a few days in St. John's. I peddled to the most eastern part of Canada. Cape Spear is approximately 20 kilometers from Downtown St. John's. A nice tourist from Saskatchewan took my pic and e-mailed it back to my hotmail account. Perhaps others would like to add a picture or two to the gallery. I notice that there are not too many people writing. It has a positive note, at least the negative and hurtful comments have disappeared.

All the best from Halifax.

Hi Gene,

I just got home from Florida, where I competed in one of the most gruelling but rewarding sporting races that you can imagine.

The race was the Florida Ironman Triathlon.  This was my first try at an Ironman, but have done shorter races before.

The swim is 3.8km and was in the ocean.  There was a 30km/hr wind and 6ft waves during the swim.  Then we did a 180km bike ride with the same winds and as soon as that was over we ran a marathon (42.6kms)  The race started at 7am and you had to finish by midnight in order to be included in the final finishers results.   I finished in 14hrs, 2minutes and 6 seconds.  Not as well as I would have liked, but still pretty good for a skinny kid from Hornepayne. In the attached photo, my two youngest boys (Peter and Brent) ran to the finish line with me.  There were 2217 people who started the race, from all over the world.  The mens race was won by a German fellow, and the women's by a Scottish girl.

I don't know if anyone from Hornepayne has ever done one of these before, but thought that you may be able to put it on the Web site.

Nagagamisis Lake thanks to Norm Davies

The first picture is of my daughter Macey and sister Victoria (who was visiting from Snow Lake, Manitoba for the first time in 3 years). The second pic is of a loon at sunset. Both pics were taken at the beginning of August/05. I thought they were beautiful pictures of Second Government, and maybe you'd like to put them on the site. Thanks! Tammy

Here is the mysterious Eric pretending to be a rooster. Actually he mounted a video camera to a helmet and taped the entire loop from Hornepayne to Hearst and back again on old "A" trail.
