The entire community should be waxing philisophically about
Belinda, who, among other things, has been personally responsible for
the success of the Skins Bonspiel at our local curling club.
For 4 years now, she has organized and run this event, which has
raised, roughly, $50 000 for the community. While she would be the
first to point out the numerous volunteers who have helped run it all,
we all know, without her, it would have withered, after the first year
or two. Congratulations Belinda, you deserve praise of the highest
value.

Just a suggestion:
Mill Lake........a definite!
Preferably a date (minus all the flying pests) in the early August.
NOTE: Aiming for the July 1st weekend and hosting the event at
the arena to avoid the weather and the flies.......just in the
planning stages so far. |

I just want to add to the comment posted on Januay 26,2005 about
teenagers. It is true that teens have a very low ability to reason
because full maturation of the prefrontal cortex(which is responsible
for cognitive activities, such as planning, decision making, and
metacognition) is not complete until sometime between adolescence and
early adulthood. Also, there are changes in the levels of
neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine in areas of the limbic
system(part of the brain that process emotional stimuli) which make
individuals more emotional and less responsive to rewards. This
diminished sensitivity to rewards stimulate adolescents to take more
risks and experiment with drugs.
I agree that parents need to be involved in their child's life,
especially during this transition period. Parents often find it
difficult when their children enter adolescence, however, parents need
to keep in mind that teenagers are also going through a difficult time
and need all the support they can get. Fortunately, adolescence
doesn't last a lifetime;) |

Hornepayne, like anything else, or any other town, is often judged
by its lowest common denominator. Therefore, it is up to each and
everyone of its residents to stand up and make better choices. Only
when we rise above the fray as a whole community, will we begin to see
a difference. That being said, it must start small. Are you willing to
wake tomorrow and make a difference? Are you willing to give the
benefit of the doubt? Are you willing to say something about drug use
and gossip and infidelity, instead of turning a blind eye? If you
don't, who will? |
| Date: January 26, 2005 Comments:
This thing about the druggies and cheaters in Hornepayne has to
stop. The worst drug I see here is cocaine. It is a terrible drug, and
has some of our resident hooked. There are your pot smokers too (which
is almost legal in Canada). There is no crank, crack, heroin, extacy,
percosets or oxycontins, or any of the other hard core drugs here that
are taking the lives of our children in the cities. Not condoning the
use of drugs, just letting you all know that the problem is in North
America, not Hornepayne. Drug wize, the problems here are small
compared to Thunder Bay or Sudbury and I feel safer allowing my kids
on these streets than anywhere else. Educating our children is not
enough. Teens have a very low ability to reason, due to the fact that
their frontal lobe (which controls hormones and reasoning) is under
major reconstruction. Do we all remember how illogical we were as
teens? Parents need to keep a short leash on their teens. Know where
they are, who their friends are, what is going on in their lives. Ask
questions, be on top of their lives. They'll thank you for it in the
end. And for God's sake, don't abandon them when they are in trouble.
As for the cheating... once again, it isn't just Hornepayne. The
only reason it seems so common here is because everyone is in everyone
elses business. I have never cheated, but if I had a dollar for every
time I spoke to a guy then had it go around I was sleeping with him...
I'd be rich, rich, rich. Hornepayne is a great little town. Aside from
the gossip, of course. So how about we quit bashing our town and write
positive things. It could open some eyes around here as to how blessed
we are to have each other, the freedom and the security that you will
never find in any city. We all just had a good scare by the latest
antics done by CNRail, and I know I am thankful that I do not have to
move to Sarnia. Thankful for so many reasons, and anyone who was in
jeapordy of being forced out shares my sentiments. Thankful to stay in
Hornepayne... who would have ever thought it? lol

For the people that know so much about people cheating on there
spouses and drug's maybe they should step up. I really feel sorry for
the ones that are getting played someone should tell them they are
always the last to know. |
| Date: January 24, 2005 Comments:
Hornepayne isn`t any different than any other town, there happens
to be drugs throughout the country. Education is about the only way to
stop the use of them. I was born and raised in Hornepayne and have
lived in a lot of different towns and never had much problem finding
something to smoke regardless of where i was. What ever happened to
the group of people that the local police called the BUBBLE GUM GANG
and the slightly older group of guys called the CLUE CREW, you never
seem to hear anything about these people of whom would be in their mid
to late 40`s now. Hornepayne is a great little town. |

this is about a comment posted on dec 11th 2004 concerning a
posting about a person who knew of cheating men and drug using
famillies......i lived there for many yrs and i saw it first hand. i
was never a user or cheater but i did know of them, quite a few were my
friends...although i was not innocent either....to a point....i can
still tell you there are people there that hide things on their
spouses,of which i dont think is right,but i cant mention names....but
the only problem with hornepayne i think is that there is too many
drugs excessible for the young people....which i think should be
stopped....by the police officers in the town...of whom i know are
really good officers.....but in a small town like hornepayne people
look out for people...which to a point can be a good thing, and its
hard to find that in central ontario due to the fact there is too many
people.thanx for reading this i hope i wasnt tooo harsh.....an old

Hi there People of Hornepayne. My wife and I were wondering if
someone could tell us the best way to find employment there. I have 25
years exp. in Carpentry, which I am currently working as a Lead Hand,
have all my own tools and a contractor's trailer. Also have 15 years
in Shipping/Receiving with many computer skills. I am open minded to
various job opportunities.(e.g.-Remote cabin /cottage work/repair)It
doesn't have to be just carpentry. We are seriously thinking of moving
to the Northern part of Ontario and it would be between April to
July/2005 when we do. We have been looking in the Wawa area at
present. We have vacationed the area for years. We just want a peice
of wilderness. Please e-mail us with any help you could offer. Thank
you. Happy New Year by the way. rickeyb_me@hotmail.com |
